Oils are extracted by using an explosive chemical called hexane which is obtained from refining crude oil. This applies to soybean, cottonseed, canola, corn germ, sunflower, safflower, peanuts, and flax. Olive oil can be extracted without hexane using a cold-pressing process.
Olive Oil – This is one of the healthiest oils but it is like comparing margarine to lard (animal fat) both of which should be avoided.
